Police will not tolerate violence

October 27, 2014

Police have been adopting a restrained approach in handling illegal occupation protesters but will not tolerate violence, Commissioner of Police Andy Tsang said today.

Mr Tsang told reporters that Police do not want to see people getting injured, especially students, during large-scale confrontations, and will take resolute action against violence and charging at cordon lines.

He also stressed that the prolonged illegal occupation had adversely affected people's daily lives and livelihoods, and had eroded the rule of law. He urged the protesters to respect court orders and stop blocking roads.

Mr Tsang noted that in the past few weeks, frontline officers have been working round the clock, doing their utmost to protect the interests of Hong Kong people, adding that they have remained devoted and steadfast in carrying out their duties.

The Police chief said he was greatly indebted to the officers and thanked people who had shown support and encouragement to them.
