The Government expects the Equal Opportunities Commission to consider all views collected during its public consultation on the Discrimination Law Review thoroughly and carefully before making its recommendations on the way forward.
It noted that the commission initiated the review, to improve the the existing anti-discrimination ordinances, which relate to discrimination on grounds of sex, race, family status and disability.
It said the review scope appears to be much more ambitious than an operational review, and touches on some highly sensitive issues.
The public have expressed strong and divergent views on some of these sensitive issues, and made a large number of submissions to the commission.
The Government expects the commission to give thorough and due consideration to all views expressed, conduct thorough research drawing on relevant jurisdictions' experiences, and balance the community's interests and concerns.
