CAD to study LegCo recommendations

June 03, 2015

The Civil Aviation Department has said it will study the Legislative Council Public Accounts Committee's recommendations on the air traffic control system made in a report issued today.

The department said it will continue to implement maintenance measures for the existing air traffic control system to keep it running smoothly and at the best international standard until the new system is in operation in the first half of next year.

With regard to the new Air Traffic Management System project being delayed, the department said it has already taken all immediate measures to enhance monitoring of the project's contractor. It has also been following up with the contractor to expedite the remaining work and to arrange training and transition activities for all project staff.

The Transport & Housing Bureau also stressed that the Secretary for Transport & Housing has instructed the Director-General of Civil Aviation to proactively follow up on the recommendations.

The bureau noted that it is aware of the committee's great concern and will study in detail, the various recommendations made in the report and see how to follow up on those recommendations as appropriate. The Legislative Council Panel on Economic Development will also be updated on the progress when appropriate.
