Two prepackaged food mislabelled

August 22, 2016

The Centre for Food Safety told retailers today to stop selling batches of a bottled dressing and a tinned infant formula after the nutrient contents were found to be inconsistent with the declared value on the nutrition label.

The bottled dressing is Red Kellys Tasmania Aromatic Lemon Myrtle Dressing, from Australia, 250 millilitres per bottle, with a best-before date of March 16, 2018.

The other product is Bibere Gold Infant Formula 1, from New Zealand, 900 grams per tin, with best-before date of November 2, 2017.

The dressing sample was collected from a supermarket in Tsim Sha Tsui, after a sample of the same product from a different batch from the shop, was found to be mislabelled earlier. The infant formula sample was taken from a retail outlet in Kowloon City.

The dressing sample’s actual sodium content was 130mg per 100ml but the declared value was 78mg per 100ml.

The actual vitamin E content in the infant formula sample was 6.5mg α-TE per 100g but the declared value was 10.8mg α-TE per 100g.

The centre has told the vendors to stop selling the affected batches immediately.
