Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah today led a delegation to meet Vice-Minister of Culture Dong Wei in Beijing to promote the development of Hong Kong's performing arts groups on the Mainland.

The delegation comprised representatives from major Hong Kong performing arts groups and staff from the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.

The visit was to give an in-depth briefing on Hong Kong performing arts groups to the Ministry of Culture, and cultivate co-operation in the performing arts field.

Mr Lau said: "The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Ministry of Culture have been working closely to push forward cultural exchange. We have worked with cultural organisations and units affiliated to the Ministry of Culture regularly on various types of projects.

"Major Hong Kong performing arts groups have also co-operated with performing arts organisations on the Mainland in areas such as creativity, joint touring and talent exchange, making quite a lot of achievements."

The delegation also met with China National Arts Fund Chairman Cai Wu. Mr Lau said he hopes Hong Kong’s performing arts groups and cultural organisations can enhance communication with the fund and expand their development on the Mainland.

The delegation will visit the National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre tomorrow.
