Antibiotic activities to be held

November 12, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection will hold a series of activities from November 16 to 22 to promote the World Health Organisation's World Antibiotic Awareness Week.

It is part of the WHO’s Antibiotics: Handle with Care campaign aimed at increasing the awareness of people and healthcare workers on antimicrobial resistance.

Antibiotics should be used to treat bacterial infections only with a doctor’s prescription and should never be shared. The full course of treatment should be completed.

Seven-hundred healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, have so far signed up at the I Pledge education resources website set up as part of the promotional activities.

The centre has called for more to join the pledge.

Other activities include competitions and publicity events.
