Student has elevated lead level

November 05, 2015

One kindergarten student has been found to have an elevated level of lead in the blood.

The result was detected in the latest batch of 379 samples covering kindergarten children, staff members of affected schools and residents of the housing estates with lead detected in the water.

The child, from Yuen Long Church (Church of Christ in China) Long Ping Estate Chan Kwong Kindergarten, was found to have a lead level at 5.72 micrograms per decilitre, indicating potential health risk.

The Department of Health will arrange lead exposure assessment and preliminary developmental assessment for the student, and the Hospital Authority will follow up on the blood lead level over time.

The public can call the department's hotline 2125 1122 regarding lead and its health effects, and to book blood tests.

The department has arranged 5,670 blood tests so far and its hotline has received 7,841 telephone enquiries.
