13 ill after eating sandwiches

August 05, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection has identified five more clusters of food poisoning cases, affecting five men and eight women who ate Horng Ryen Jen sandwiches.

The 13 patients, aged 14 to 53, fell ill after consuming the sandwiches purchased from a supermarket in Tsim Sha Tsui, exhibition booths in a Wong Tai Sin shopping centre, a stall in a Tsuen Wan shopping centre, a shop in Kwun Tong and a restaurant in Yuen Long between July 25 and 29.

Nine sought medical consultation and one who required hospitalisation has been discharged.

So far, the centre had identified 25 clusters affecting 72 people. In addition to laboratory testing results reported earlier, stool specimens from three more cases tested positive for Group D Salmonella.

The centre reminds people to maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times.
