The Centre for Food Safety has banned the import of poultry products, including eggs, from Meeker County in Minnesota.
The ban followed a notification by US authorities about an H5N2 avian influenza outbreak in the county.
The centre has contacted them and will also monitor information from the World Organisation for Animal Health.
Hong Kong imported about 267,000 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and 530 million poultry eggs from the US last year.
