The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry products, including eggs, from Clallam County in the US state of Washington and Palestine’s West Bank with immediate effect.
The ban was implemented due to avian influenza outbreaks in these areas.
The centre has contacted the relevant authorities and will monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.
More than 250,000 tonnes of frozen and chilled poultry meat and 480 million eggs were imported from the US from January to November last year.
No poultry meat and eggs were imported from Palestine.
