Poultry market to reopen

January 20, 2015

When the Cheung Shan Wan Temporary Wholesale Poultry Market resumes operation tomorrow, the Ta Kwu Ling Checkpoint can stop operation, as live chickens can be distributed at the market again, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says.

Speaking to reporters today, Dr Ko said the Government has not yet received notification from Mainland authorities on the resumption of the Mainland live chicken supply.

Turning to future demand for medical services, Dr Ko said as the population is ageing rapidly, more than 6,000 new hospital beds will be needed in the coming 20 to 30 years.

The Hospital Authority is planning to expand and develop new hospital facilities to meet the long-term demand, said Dr Ko, adding that the Kai Tak Hospital is one such project.
