The Centre for Food Safety has found excessive pesticide residues in two Chinese lettuce samples and is following up on the cases.
Two samples were collected at the Vegetable Marketing Organisation in Cheung Sha Wan.
They contained methomyl at a level of 0.77 parts per million, 3.85 times the maximum residue limit. Another sample contained dimethoate at a level of 2.6 parts per million, about 2.6 times the maximum.
Based on the level of pesticides found in the samples, eating a normal amount of the vegetables is unlikely to cause adverse health effects, food safety officials said.
Consumers are reminded to rinse and soak vegetables before eating them to reduce any pesticide on the surface.
