Dried bean curd alert issued

December 06, 2014
Food alert

Food alert:  A pre-packed black pepper dried bean curd imported from Taiwan was found to contain a banned colouring agent.

The Centre for Food Safety today urged consumers not to eat a batch of pre-packed black pepper dried bean curd imported from Taiwan as it contains banned colouring agent Dimethyl yellow.

It has also asked the trade to stop selling the product immediately.

The product, Towfu Cake, manufactured by Techang Food Co, Ltd., has a sell-by date of March 24, 2015. The net weight of each pack is 70 grams.

The sample was taken from a shop on Fau Tsoi Street in Yuen Long for testing during a targeted food surveillance project.

Checks are being made to see if other batches of the dried bean curd and other similar products by the same manufacturer are in breach of the same regulation.
