A sample of fresh beef was found to contain sulphur dioxide, failing Centre for Food Safety tests.
The sample was taken from a stall at Yan Oi Market in Tuen Mun, and it was found to contain sulphur dioxide - a preservative not permitted in fresh meat - at a level of 160 parts per million.
The centre has informed the vendor concerned of the result.
Food safety officials reminded food traders not to sell fresh or chilled meat containing sulphur dioxide, and advised people to buy meat from reliable market stalls or fresh provision shops.
