99 Dengue fever cases reported

November 07, 2014

As of November 6, there were 99 confirmed Dengue fever cases in Hong Kong - 97 imported and two local, the Centre for Health Protection announced today.

Five new cases were reported from October 31 to November 6 involving patients who had travelled to the Philippines, India, the Mainland or multiple countries during the incubation period, and a local case.

Health officials said Dengue fever activities in neighbouring areas remained at a high level.

Dengue fever is a common mosquito-borne disease. From 2004 to 2013, a total of 505 infections were recorded in Hong Kong. There were no deaths from the disease.

The centre reminded people that one of the best ways to avoid mosquito bites is to get rid of pockets of stagnant water that serve as mosquito breeding sites.
