Youth Olympic Games open

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing is in Nanjing to attend the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games and cheer on Hong Kong athletes.

 

He arrived in the city yesterday to join in the Games’ opening ceremony at night.

 

Mr Tsang watched Hong Kong athletes take part in events today, including badminton, fencing and swimming.

 

He also visited the Youth Olympics Village and met Hong Kong representatives, encouraging them to try their best and strive for excellence.

 

He also urged them to get to know young athletes from around the world, experience different cultures, and establish friendships, to extend the Olympic spirit.

 

Mr Tsang thanked the coaches, volunteers and supporting organisations.

 

Eighteen Hong Kong athletes will compete in badminton, equestrian, fencing, golf, windsurfing, table tennis, triathlon and swimming competitions.

 

Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow after watching other Hong Kong athletes’ events.
