Ebola measures effective

August 16, 2014

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-Man says that Hong Kong is concerned about the Ebola outbreaks in West Africa, and has implemented effective and appropriate surveillance measures.

Briefing reporters today, Dr Ko said these measures include providing information to visitors about Ebola, and asking them to report to port health officials if they have relevant symptoms and were exposed to the disease.

Speaking on the mass deaths of chickens in a San Tin farm earlier, Dr Ko said no infectious agents was found in the chickens.

The Agricultural, Fisheries & Conservation Department concluded that the deaths were likely caused by heat stress due to a power failure.

He added that as the live chicken supply is limited to locally produced chickens, the supply and price of live chickens are likely to fluctuate in the near future.
