The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department has found no infectious agents in chickens that died on a San Tin farm earlier this month.
It said today the deaths were likely caused by heat stress after a power outage shut down the farm’s ventilation system. About 4,300 birds died.
The department was informed of the abnormal deaths on August 9, and samples were taken for analysis. All tested negative for avian influenza and other serious infections.
The health of the farm’s chickens has since been improving.
All local chicken farms have been inspected and no irregularities have been observed.
