Ebola measures updated

August 02, 2014

The Centre for Health Protection has updated its local response to overseas outbreaks of the Ebola virus. From today, immigration officers will issue information sheets to arrival passengers holding travel documents issued by the three West African countries affected - Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The centre's website has posted a travel alert message, advising travellers to avoid unnecessary travel to the affected countries. It has provided guidelines for health professionals on infection control for the virus in healthcare settings.

There is currently no vaccine for the virus. The Department of Health called on people to stay alert and maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene.

For more information and travel advice, please visit the centre's Ebola virus page, the department's Travel Health Service website and the World Health Organisation's page.
