8 new Mainland avian flu cases reported

Eight additional Mainland human avian influenza A(H7N9) cases have been reported - four in Zhejiang, and one each in Zhaoqing, Jiangsu, Yangjiang and Huizhou, the Centre for Health Protection says.

 

The Zhejiang cases are four men aged 42 to 84, all in hospital. The Zhaoqing case is a four-year-old girl, while the Jiangsu case is a woman, 59. They are also in hospital.

 

The other two cases, in Yangjiang and Huizhou, were two men, aged 76 and 52. Both died on February 3.

 

As of yesterday, there were a total of 292 human avian influenza cases confirmed in the Mainland, including Zhejiang (118 cases), Guangdong (50), Shanghai (41), Jiangsu (37), Fujian (18), Hunan (six), Jiangxi (six), Anhui (four), Henan (four), Beijing (three), Shandong (two), Guangxi (one), Guizhou (one, imported from Zhejiang) and Hebei (one).

 

Travellers returning from avian influenza-affected areas who have a fever or respiratory symptoms should wear masks, seek medical attention and reveal their travel history to doctors.
