The Centre for Health Protection was notified today of an additional human H7N9 case, affecting a 31-year-old Shenzhen man.
He fell ill on December 30 and was admitted to a local hospital on January 3. He tested positive for the H7N9 virus. He had no recent history of contact with poultry and is now stable.
His 35 close contacts in Shenzhen have been put under medical surveillance and they all tested negative the virus.
A four-year-old girl living in Hong Kong had close contact with the man when she and her 37-year-old mother travelled to Shenzhen. The centre located them today and preliminary investigation showed that the girl is asymptomatic, while her mother developed a sore throat last night.
They have been admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital for isolation and tests.
