Man ill with drug-resistant infection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of invasive community-associated Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus involving an 82-year-old man.
He fell ill on January 15. He sought medical consultation at Princess Margaret Hospital the following day and was admitted for further treatment.
He tested positive for CA-MRSA. He is stable.
He has no recent travel history.
MRSA is a type of Staphylococcus aureus that is resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. It is a common infection worldwide.
