Travel agent fee waiver gazetted

May 20, 2016

The Travel Agents (Fee Concessions) Regulation 2016 was gazetted today to effect the waivers of certain licence fees for 12 months payable by a travel agent.

This is to implement the 2016-17 Budget’s short-term measures to reduce the running costs in the tourism industry that faces keen competition from its neighbours amidst recent incidents that tarnished Hong Kong's reputation.

Fees under Schedule 1 to the Travel Agents Regulations (Cap. 218A) payable during the concession period from November 20 this year to November 19 next year will be waived.

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau said travel agents do not need to apply for the waivers separately, which ranges from $485 to $925, because the fees will be automatically waived if conditions are met.

The regulation will be tabled at the Legislative Council on May 25 and will take effect from November 20, dovetailing with the existing concession period from a year before under the fee concessions regulation 2015.
