Location filming promotes tourism

May 11, 2016

The Tourism Board has been inviting international television broadcasters and production houses to film their popular shows in Hong Kong in recent years to promote the city's diverse tourism attractions.

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So told legislators today the board leverages on movies and television shows from source markets to promote Hong Kong.

It has invited popular television shows from India and Malaysia to shoot scenes in Hong Kong, and recently co-operated with a movie company, local tourist attractions and travel agents to design itineraries to cover scenes featured in the Mainland movie Lost in Hong Kong last year.

Create Hong Kong provides one-stop services to television and film production crews to facilitate location filming, and processed 513 location filming applications last year.

CreateHK also collaborates with Guangdong and Macau authorities to develop and promote location filming and film production services in the Pearl River Delta Region.

Mr So said helping and attracting overseas production crews to use Hong Kong as a place for location filming can leave a strong impression among overseas audiences, benefitting the tourism and film industries.
