Economic development meeting held

The Economic Development Commission learned about population policy initiatives, and provided views on how to enhance workforce productivity and training in light of Hong Kong's economic development at its seventh meeting today.

 

It was also briefed on the work progress of its working groups.

 

The working group on manufacturing industries, innovative technology, and cultural and creative industries noted that the Government has agreed to strengthen and promote the fashion sector, and will make available existing and new resources totalling $500 million to launch a series of measures for that purpose.

 

The working group on transportation noted that the Government is studying its proposal on promoting aerospace financing. It has also developed work plans on further measures to support the development of the aviation and maritime sectors.

 

The working group on convention and exhibition industries and tourism discussed Lantau's latest tourism and economic developments, and offered views on the positioning of the island's tourism development, in particular, new commercial developments to be pursued and transport connections between tourism attractions on Lantau.

 

Under the Chief Executive's leadership, the commission is tasked with providing visionary direction and advice to the Government on the overall strategy and policy to broaden Hong Kong's economic base and to enhance the city's economic growth and development.
