Alert issued on bogus email

March 29, 2017

The Environmental Protection Department has issued an alert on a fraudulent email purporting to be issued by the Secretary for the Environment, inviting recipients to take part in "Guided visit with a theme on Enhancing Environment Al Capacity" on April 4 in Tuen Mun.

Attached to the email is a letter bearing the logos of the department and the Climate Ready @ Hong Kong campaign.

Recipients were also asked to open another attachment in the email and to provide their email address and password.

The department said it has no connection with the email and has reported the case to Police.

It said when it issues invitations for its activities or events, the email or letters will bear the name of the department officer concerned and contact information for enquiries.

People are urged to delete suspicious emails and not open their attachments.
