Vehicle emission changes launched

October 17, 2014

The Environmental Protection Department launched today two transitional arrangements for the strengthened emission control programme for petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles.

The transitional arrangements will last until January 31.

The period for petrol and LPG vehicles found to be emitting excessive emissions to pass the emission test will be extended from the current 12 working days to 25.

Up to two free tests will be provided to vehicles that failed the first emission tests on condition that the owners have to pay for the first emission test and the pollutant emissions of the vehicles are not more than five times the level of their design standards in the test.
