Pollution advisory issued

July 22, 2014

The Environmental Protection Department has advised people to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities due to higher than normal pollution levels.

At 4pm today the Air Quality Health Index in Yuen Long, Tai Po, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung reached 10+ while most stations were at 9 or above.

The health risk categories were "Very High" or "Serious".

The Hong Kong Observatory said the weather will remain very hot tomorrow under the influence of Typhoon Matmo, until a southerly airstream bringing showers arrives later this week. Pollution is expected to remain high until then.

The observatory advised that children, the elderly and people with heart or respiratory illnesses reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities.
