More green transport trials approved

The 10th batch of applications for green transport trials under the Pilot Green Transport Fund has been approved, the Environmental Protection Department announced today.

 

The four newly approved applications include the trial of five hybrid goods vehicles and two sets of solar air-conditioning systems on two public light buses, involving a total subsidy of $1.6 million.

 

This brings the total number of trials under the fund to 76, for the testing of 23 electric taxis, two electric light buses, 11 electric buses, 35 electric goods vehicles, 46 hybrid goods vehicles, 12 hybrid light buses, three sets of solar air-conditioning systems and the retrofitting of four bus engines amounting to a total subsidy of about $93 million.

 

The Government set up the $300 million fund in March 2011. Transport operators can apply to the fund to test green transport technologies, subject to a maximum subsidy of $9 million per application and $12 million in total.
