Chief Executive CY Leung has thanked 2016 Legislative Council General Election organisers for ensuring the poll went smoothly.

In a statement issued after polling ended tonight, Mr Leung said: "Members of the public actively participated in the voting and it went smoothly overall.

"I extend my sincere gratitude to the Electoral Affairs Commission, the Registration & Electoral Office and all relevant government departments and staff involved in facilitating the orderly conduct of the election in an open, fair and honest manner, and in strict accordance with the relevant legislation and electoral guidelines."
