Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has refuted a newspaper report claiming she disagrees with the principle of keeping Government expenditure within the limits of revenues.
She told reporters today she agrees with the principle and has helped to keep the Government's budget balanced.
Mrs Lam spoke on the Basic Law at a youth summit last week and made reference to the principle which is in Basic Law Article 107, saying it was an example to illustrate that people can uphold the Basic Law even though they might not agree with all of its provisions.
She told the media she is surprised by the misunderstanding in the report and has contacted the publication to seek clarification.
