Returning Officers are acting in accordance with the law to ensure the Legislative Council election runs in a legal, open, fair and honest manner.
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam made the statement today at a youth forum on the Basic Law.
She said Returning Officers decide on the validity of a nomination according to the law and legal advice.
She said some people have blatantly lied about their stance towards Hong Kong's independence so they can run for election, so the Government must handle it seriously.
People unhappy with Returning Officers' decisions should file grievances through legal means and not vent their anger through threats and abuse, she added.
