National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang visited the Sheng Kung Hui Tseung Kwan O Aged Care Complex in Tseung Kwan O this morning.

Accompanied by Chief Executive CY Leung, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung and other welfare officials, Mr Zhang toured its Day Care Centre for the Elderly and District Elderly Community Centre which make use of innovative technology to improve treatment.

While touring the rehabilitation room, Mr Zhang was briefed by a physiotherapist on the use of an exoskeleton hand robotic training device in rehabilitation training activities and watched a seniors' exercise session led by a robot.

Mr Zhang also chatted to some seniors taking part in a chess game and a tea art activity.

Before leaving, Mr Zhang presented a treadmill and a massage chair as gifts for the centre, while senior citizens gave him a hand-made souvenir to thank him for his care.

Mr Zhang said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has been adopting a multi-pronged approach to enhance and improve the hardware and software of elderly care services, and embracing new thinking by implementing various pilot schemes with more diversified modes of service to meet the different needs of elderly people.
