The Mainland is Hong Kong's biggest and most important economic partner, and local businesses should seize the opportunities it offers for further development, Chief Executive CY Leung says.
Speaking to reporters ahead of an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung said Hong Kong businesses are now investing in several different areas on the Mainland, some with considerable returns.
He said the Mainland pledged its support for Hong Kong in the 13th Five-Year Plan, providing abundant opportunities.
He added he has every confidence in the competitiveness of Hong Kong businesses on the Mainland.
On the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Stock Connect, Mr Leung said Premier Li Keqiang has hoped for it to be launched within this year, adding that Hong Kong is ready for it.
