Chief Executive CY Leung says Hong Kong and India have a lot of room for co-operation in scientific research, commercialisation and co-investment.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry in Mumbai today, Mr Leung said Hong Kong is a perfect base for India's regional and global growth.

“We have the experience, the expertise, and the connections to bring Hong Kong and Indian entrepreneurs together for rewarding partnerships."

Mr Leung is leading a 40-person business delegation to India. They were briefed by two major Indian conglomerates on the country’s economy, business environment, communication technology and infrastructure this morning.

Mr Leung also visited the Bharat Diamond Bourse to learn more about India’s diamond trade. He noted that Hong Kong bought about US$8.5 billion-worth of diamonds from India for consumption, preparing jewellery for export and for on-selling to Mainland visitors.

He then visited the Capital, a commercial building project led by a Hong Kong-based architecture firm, and met with Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis afterwards.

Mr Leung will attend the bell-ringing ceremony in Mumbai's stock exchange tomorrow, followed by a meeting with Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao.

He will give a keynote speech at a business luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in the afternoon before departing for New Delhi.
