Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says the Government has no plan to withdraw the Copyright (Amendment) Bill as it has already passed the second reading procedure at the Legislative Council.
Speaking to reporters today, Mrs Lam said the passage of the second reading showed the council’s support for the bill, which only needs to go through some technical procedures before becoming law.
She reminded pan-democratic legislators that it is their constitutional duty to examine the legislative proposals that come before them according to the statutory rules and procedures and the Basic Law.
Mrs Lam said she will meet the council’s chairman next week to discuss ways to facilitate discussion and passage of the bill.
She added that she is willing to meet with the pan-democrats if they have any constructive proposal on how to break the current deadlock, otherwise it is not much use for her to meet them.
