Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says the Government is "very determined" to get the Copyright (Amendment) Bill passed by the Legislative Council.
Mrs Lam made the statement today in response to a news report quoting her as saying the Government may shelve the bill.
She said: "In these days I hope you all should appreciate that the Government could not rule out anything, because we are not operating in a normal environment. Very odd things are happening nowadays in the Legislative Council. This calling of quorum is wasting a lot of time of a lot of people. So in this sort of abnormal situation, it is not for me to say that something definitely would not happen or something definitely would happen.
"We have to monitor the situation very closely. But I can only say that up to this moment, we are very determined to get this Copyright (Amendment) Bill passed, because this has been discussed in the public domain and also within the Legislative Council for some time, and Hong Kong's copyright legislation and the whole legislative framework is lagging well behind, and it is time for us to come to a decision on this very important matter."
Responding to a request by some lawmakers to meet them to discuss the bill, Mrs Lam said she does not consider it necessary to meet them at this stage.
