LegCo urged to pass copyright bill

January 20, 2016

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has urged lawmakers to continue their meeting and pass the Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2014 as soon as possible.

Debate on the bill continued in the Legislative Council today.

Speaking to reporter, Mr So said legislators did not spend much time debating the ordinance as quorum counting occupied a lot of time.

He said: "This is the time for the people of Hong Kong, this is the time for our LegCo members, to come together to constructively work out a solution, and the solution that has been worked out is very reasonable, balancing all sides.

"Topics that have not been fully deliberated in the past, that we believe should belong to the next round of consultation, and not stop this bill from going forward, to have our copyright system meet international standard to allow our copyrights to be updated.

"This is really in the best interests of Hong Kong and I think we should not point fingers at anybody but work together."
