HK congratulates Beijing

Acting Chief Executive Carrie Lam has congratulated Beijing on its successful bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, on behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

 

In a statement, she said this is the second time the country has won the bid for an Olympic event.

 

"In 2008 Beijing made the Summer Olympics the focus of the world and demonstrated that our nation has the ability to successfully host a world-class mega sports event.

 

"Hong Kong also had the honour and privilege to co-host the Beijing Olympic Equestrian Events and made concerted efforts to bring the impressive and entertaining equestrian events to the city, receiving high praise from the participating teams.

 

"We have seen robust development of our country since the conclusion of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. City infrastructure and living standards of the people have been enhanced. The increase in the overall strength of the country will enable further success in holding international sports game."

 

She added she hopes the 2022 Games will be the best Winter Olympics in history.
