Civil right:  Mr Fung (right) calls on eligible persons to sign up as voters.

The 2015 voter registration campaign was launched today, to encourage eligible people to register as electors before July 2.

Hong Kong permanent residents aged 18 years or older who are ordinarily residing in Hong Kong are eligible to register as electors.

Registered electors are not required to register again, but should notify the Registration & Electoral Office of any change in residential address or other registration particulars by August 25.

Electoral Affairs Commission Chairman Justice Barnabas Fung noted that the number of registered electors is about 3.5 million, which has increased by nearly 300,000 compared with the figure 10 years ago, but there are still about 1.3 million eligible people who have yet to register as electors.

He appealed to those people to submit new registration applications, so that they can vote in the District Council Election to be held in November.
