Top officials promote reform

April 22, 2015

Chief Executive CY Leung and other senior officials visited Mei Foo tonight to publicise the Government's proposals on the method for selecting the Chief Executive by universal suffrage.

He was joined by Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen and Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam in appealing for community support to help make constitutional reform happen.

Mr Leung said as long as Hong Kong people share the same goal of universal suffrage in the 2017 Chief Executive election, it can be achieved.

The Government held two rounds of public consultation since December 2013 before making the proposals.

In the second-round consultation, in the first quarter of this year, Government officials attended 88 consultative sessions and district activities, and over 130,000 written submissions were received.
