CE rejects magazine claims

February 24, 2015

Chief Executive CY Leung today refuted claims published in Next Magazine regarding his son's medical education, noting that his son has a proven academic track record and does not need his help.

The magazine claimed last week that businessman Lau Ming-wai's donation to setup a Karolinska Institutet research centre in Hong Kong reflects "the intricate relationship between the CE and powerful individuals and that he is paving the way for his son".

Mr Leung told reporters ahead of an Executive Council meeting today, that his son obtained a doctorate degree from Britain's Cambridge University when he was 25-years-old and continued his research work on a scholarship, before being accepted to the institute in Sweden.

He made it clear that he had not helped his son in any way.
