Public Sentiments Report to be submitted

November 12, 2014

The Constitutional Development Task Force will submit a Public Sentiments Report to the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office.

Acting Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Lau Kong-wah told the Legislative Council today the report will objectively and truthfully reflect the aspirations and opinions of different sectors of the community on constitutional development since August 31.

The report will also cover opinion polls and signature campaigns conducted by different organisations.

Mr Lau said the Government will only submit one Public Sentiments Report, which will not constitute a part of the "Five-step" constitutional process.

The Government will conduct a second round of public consultation in accordance with the National People's Congress Standing Committee decision, and submit a resolution to the Legislative Council to amend Annex I of the Basic Law, to secure two-thirds majority LegCo approval to implement universal suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017.
