Secondary student strikes 'inappropriate'

September 15, 2014

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said the Government will not interrupt student strikes at universities, but it would not like to see secondary school students take part in strikes.

Speaking to the media after meeting the heads of eight local universities today, Mrs Lam said she respects the ways the universities will handle student strikes. She urged student groups to organise any strikes in a legal and rational manner. Students who choose to take part in the strikes should consider their responsibilities, she stressed.

The second round of public consultation on constitutional reform is expected to be conducted next month, Mrs Lam added. She called on pan-democratic Legislative Council members to express their opinions during the consultation.
