Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao 

Biography:
Dr Sarah Liao assumed the post of Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works in August 2002. Prior to that, she was Managing Director for Greater China, CH2M Hill Ltd, responsible for managing environmental and infrastructure operations. She became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1995 and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in 1996. Over the past years, she has been actively involved in environmental protection work and has helped to promote the development of many green groups.

Education:

Ph.D. 1985 Environmental / Occupational Health, University of Hong Kong

M.Phil. 1977 Inorganic Chemistry, University of Hong Kong

M.Sc. 1975 Analytical Chemistry, University of Birmingham, U.K.

B.Sc. (Hons) 1973 Chemistry and Botany, University of Hong Kong



Key Responsibilities:
Dr Liao's Bureau is responsible for policy matters on environmental protection and conservation, developing roads and highways, providing transport services, traffic management, public works, water supply, slope safety and flood prevention in Hong Kong.
