Master director Fei Mu's 1940 film classic Confucius, recently rediscovered in Hong Kong, will be shown at the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival in April.

The  Hong Kong Film Archive has restored the film.

It will be shown at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre at 7.15pm on April 1. The film maker's family members, Barbara Fei and Prof Serena Jin, will greet the audience before the screening.

Two other screenings will be held at 2.30pm on April 10 and April 19 at the Film Archive's cinema.

Ms Fei, Prof Jin and the archive's conservation personnel Edward Tse and Koven Lo will outline the restoration work in the seminar "The Story of Confucius" at 2pm on April 5.

Writer Koo Siu-sun, Prof Li Ling of Peking University and Prof Cheng Pei-kai of City University's Chinese Civilisation Centre will discuss the film, including its historical context, cultural significance and aesthetics in the seminar "Confucius & Confucius" at 4.30pm on April 19.

Both seminars will be conducted in Cantonese and Putonghua. Admission is free.

Tickets are $30 and will be available at all URBTIX outlets starting tomorrow. Call 2739 2139 or 2734 2900 for enquiries.
