The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra and violin soloist Xiang Chen will perform at Hong Kong City Hall's Concert Hall on May 28, directed by the "Father of the Children's Choir", Dr Yip Wai-hong.
The programme includes Copland 's Outdoor Overture, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor (Op. 64) and Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D (Op. 6).
Xiang Chen made his debut at 13 in 1983, performing Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the Xinjiang Orchestra. Since then, he has performed with orchestras in Australia, England, Germany, Japan, Italy, Moldavia, Austria, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Switzerland and in the Mainland and has given numerous recitals.
He has won in numerous international competitions including the Fritz Krisler International Violin competition in Vienna, the Lippiza International Violin Competition in Goriza in Italy, the Tibor Varga International Violin Competitions in Sion in Switzerland and Sydney International Violin Competition.
Dr Yip founded the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, a highly organised amateur orchestra that aims to promote music among the general public - especially the younger generation.
The concert will begin at 8pm. Tickets priced at $160, $120 and $80 are available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
