*

A regulation amending the sanctions against North Korea has been gazetted and put into effect.

It implements decisions of the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 1874. It also implements its decision to expand the scope of sanctions against the country under resolution 1718 to include a list of additional items, material, equipment, goods or technology.

The amendment regulation provides for:

* an expanded scope of items subject to sanctions to include all arms and related materiel;

* prohibition against the procurement of technical training, service, assistance or advice from the country related to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of any specified arms;

* prohibition against engaging in certain financial transactions related to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of any specified arms the supply, sale, transfer, carriage or procurement of which is prohibited; and,

* prohibition against providing bunkering and other services to a ship registered in the country under certain circumstances.
