48 people netted for suspected corruption

*
ICAC

The ICAC has arrested 35 people, plus 13 police officers, for suspected corruption and involvement in illegal activities allegedly facilitated by graft.

The arrested officers, including two senior police inspectors, are suspected to have accepted advantages for offering protection to entertainment establishments, restaurants, illegal gambling and vice establishments.

Others are 10 operators and staff of discos and karaoke clubs, eight operators of vice dens and an illegal gambling stall, two masseuses, five other individuals, and 10 Mainlanders.

The ICAC operation, mounted last night with police assistance, arose from corruption complaints. An illegal gambling stall and a number of entertainment establishments in the Yau Tsim district were raided.

The arrestees are still being detained and inquiries are continuing.
