Stanley Prison inmate commits suicide

*
Correctional Services Department

A Stanley prison inmate was found hanging in his cell early this morning.

About 1.30am, a staff on patrol found the 22-year-old inmate, who had used a piece of a bed sheet to hang himself.

He was given first aid and taken to Eastern Hospital where he was later certified dead.

The inmate, Tsui Kwong-lung, had been convicted of remaining in Hong Kong without authority, and attempted burglary. He had been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, and had been admitted to Stanley Prison on October 16, 2002.

The Coroner's Court will hold an inquest.
